Birkenhead House

A Leading Hotels Of The World hotel. Rialto is a Virtuoso agency: book this hotel direct at the VIP rate for benefits that can include priority room upgrades, hotel credits, and more.

One of the Garden Route's most celebrated and best-loved hideaways, Birkenhead House is as dramatic as it is cozy and private. The white-pillared hotel is set atop a craggy cliff; between July and December, you might glimpse a passing whale (for an even closer view, take the tour departing from Kleinbaai Harbour). From here, it's easy to visit the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, known for its amazing vineyards and jaw-dropping scenery. The area is home to some of South Africa's finest examples of pinot noir and chardonnay. Rooms are as decadent as they come; ask for the one with a romantic clawfoot tub set in the middle of the bathroom.

About Birkenhead House

Insider tip

At the right time of day when the tide is just right, you’ll be able to walk down to the beach in front of Birkenhead House with one of our chefs and pick fresh mussels from the rocks.

In the hotel’s own words

Birkenhead House overlooks Walker Bay, home to southern right whales and a place to revel in being close to nature. The beautiful blues of sky and sea are offset by vibrant colours and patterns interspersed with moments of calm, while the luxurious suites are anything but predictable.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does booking through Rialto cost more than booking with the hotel?

Card details are not sent through the AI chat, so either you would approve the final checkout step and reconfirm all the information, or if you authorize your agent with Computer-Use permissions, it can fill out the checkout form as well.

What is the value of the VIP benefits?

Daily breakfast for two comes with every stay at this hotel - which could add $50-100/day in value, not counting any other VIP program benefits like room upgrades.

What Virtuoso amenities does Birkenhead House include?

What room types does Birkenhead House offer?

Birkenhead House lists Superior, Luxury, Standard, Deluxe Superior, Entire House. Sizes and bed options for each are in the rooms table above.

How does this compare to other programs, like through AMEX Fine Hotels & Resorts, or Chase Edit?

Using a hotel's own VIP program may provide higher upgrade priority, additional VIP benefits and promotional rate offers, and a direct relationship with the hotel for special requests. Rialto offers more VIP hotels than any credit card program. In addition, Chase Edit rates can be substantially more expensive as they rarely run promotions whereas AMEX rates are often comparable but do not offer programs such as Upgrade at Booking.
