A storied hideaway perched on the iconic rock in sunny St Barths. In 1950, Rémy de Haenen purchases the rocky promontory and builds a hotel upon it, gambling on the island’s potential as a dream destination. David and Jane Matthews and family purchase the property in 1995 from Rémy De Haenen and restore the buildings, constructing new additions and designing enhanced amenities that preserve De Haenen’s eccentric taste and zest for life. In 2014, the Matthews family partners with Oetker Hotels to manage Eden Rock – St Barths. After an extensive, two-year rebuild following Hurricane Irma, the hotel reopens in 2019 to extraordinary fanfare.

Just a few metres from Eden Rock’s dreamy sandy beach and surrounded by manicured lawns and colourful gardens, these rooms are on the ground floor of our double-level Plantation Houses. Interiors are delightfully cool and airy, clad in white wood panelling with Burgundy stone floors underfoot.

Inspired by sailing yacht design this Cabin is newly rearranged and now is a distinctive single bedroom with teak floors brass portholes and leather marine seats. The “private owners deck” has a new infinity swimming pool.

The De Haenen suite, named after the island’s first aviator and original owner of the Eden Rock, offers panoramic views across the ocean and the peaceful St Jean Bay.

Private pool, a library, a green Mayfair Chesterfield and sited at the center of the property, a minute’s walk to the Sand Bar. The Greta Garbo Suite is designed in glamorous 1930s Hollywood style – indeed, the legendary actress used this place when she felt the need “to be alone”. It has a large terrace, a charming and peaceful garden, and a large bathroom featuring a bathtub and two wash basins.

The brilliant Howard Hughes is located at the very top of the main house perched on the rock. Three terraces surrounding the loft offer a stunning 360° view of St Jean Bay. The loft is named after, and inspired by, the legendary US aviator Howard Hughes, who lived here in the 1950s.
