Set in an old mansion at the foot of the Palais des Papes in the heart of Avignon, La Mirande is steeped in secular history. The hotel is named after the famous room in the Palais des Papes, where the Pope’s representatives held receptions for the city’s notables and visiting high-ranking officials. Originally a Cardinal’s Palace in the 14th century, the ruins of La Mirande were restored during the 17th century to create the Hôtel de Vervins and its baroque façade by architect Pierre Mignard, later becoming the Hôtel Pamard between the late 18th and 20th centuries.

The Stein family researched the typical styles and materials of the region in depth before beginning restoration works between 1987 and 1990, with the will to recreate the atmosphere of an 18th century aristocratic residence.
Rooms & Suite
Twenty-six exquisitely intimate bedrooms individually decorated with historic French cotton prints. La Rivière enchantée, La Roseraie or Le Grand Corail among others, the very names of the great cotton prints of the past are an invitation to travel. A constant exoticism pervades the heritage of the rooms’ wall hangings, which have become historical monuments. A heritage that takes us back through time to the 18th century, the century of Enchantment, when the Anglo-Chinese gardens made their appearance with their attendant literature full of the pleasures of love and nature.
Living Rooms & Garden
This quiet place is generously open to the curiosity of all those who cross its austere, classical French Threshold, intrigued by a glance from the street or on the advice of friends. The domain then takes on the appearance of a labyrinth, and each corner shrouds itself in intimacy, protecting the privacy of conversations and the silence of solitary musing.
Food & Drink
The gourmet restaurant, awarded with one Michelin star in 2019, is an entity in its own right. At Hotel La Mirande the days follow a rhythm marked by genuine gastronomical moments. The table is a décor where the materials and the objects join with the forms and the colors of the food you are invited to taste: pleasure of the eye as an introduction to the pleasure of the palate! The talent and strength behind such an outstanding accomplishment is 31-years-old Florent Pietravalle, former assistant chef of Pierre Gagnaire in Paris with whom he spent 4 years before deciding to cook in his own name. Since April 2016 he is the chef de cuisine at La Mirande.
Cooking School
The old kitchen is the setting for the cooking school. The Chef invites some of the region’s greatest chefs to lead cooking classes for all culinary enthusiasts, from those looking for an introduction to the art of Provencal cooking to those wishing to enhance their knowledge of gastronomy. In keeping with La Mirande’s spirit of conviviality, novice chefs will have the pleasure of inviting friends to join them round the table and share in the meal they have prepared.
