La Residencia, A Belmond Hotel, is Deià’s intimate mountainside enclave. Art, craft, nature and epicurean cuisine define this Mallorcan retreat, perched between the UNESCO World Heritage Tramuntana Mountains and the Mediterranean Sea.
Formerly a hive of agricultural productivity, Deià became world renowned for its creative scene in the last four decades. Under the stewardship of Sir Richard Branson, La Residencia emerged as an artistic hub, attracting musicians, writers and creative souls from around the world. Today, its artist residency program and esteemed art collection keep the creative legacy of La Residencia alive.
Honey-coloured stone buildings are surrounded by olive groves and citrus trees. The individually designed rooms and suites feature sun-splashed balconies or private plunge pools with mountain views. They include a sumptuous suite designed by Matthew Williamson, a suite set in a medieval watchtower, and a deluxe self-catering villa, located in the village within walking distance.
Tennis courts, three pools and an award-winning spa can be enjoyed on site. Dining options include the coveted El Olivo, set in a former olive press, the poolside Tramuntana Grill, and Restaurante Miró, adorned with 33 original works by the Spanish artist. Art abounds in every corner, from the in-house gallery to the sculpture gardens. Creative classes are offered by the hotel’s artists in residence and a complimentary walking tour takes guests around local painters’ studios.
Onsite activities range from a walk with the resident donkeys to champion-hosted tennis weekends. Romantic dinners can be arranged on the Mirador, a private terrace overlooking the sea, reached by the hotel’s scenic Poets’ Walk. Customised adventures for all ages include guided cycling or hiking tours, vineyard visits and fragrance workshops.
