Set in the heart of Portofino’s vibrant Piazzetta, Splendido Mare, A Belmond Hotel, embodies the cinematic essence of the glamorous coastal village. Completely reimagined in 2021, this harbourside jewel radiates the carefree sophistication of the Italian Riviera.

It began life as a charming guesthouse for weary fishermen and travellers. By the 1950s, it was attracting affluent jetsetters and legendary film stars, such as Humphrey Bogart and Ava Gardner. Today, it remains a gathering place for stylish Italians and international travellers.

Fourteen individually designed rooms and suites brim with unique character. Discovered along winding corridors, they boast rich nautical hues, artisanal details and picture-perfect harbour views. Murano glass lamps, understated Rubelli fabrics and vintage Gio Ponti furniture blend timeless style with a hint of dolce vita. Crowning the hotel is the light and airy Ava Gardner Suite with a magnificent terrace stretching its entire length – perfect for glittering private parties.

Celebrated DaV Mare, a destination restaurant in partnership with the Cerea family, serves up Ligurian specialities overlooking the Piazzetta. DaV Mare Bar is a hotspot for innovative cocktails based on local ingredients. Nearby Gelateria San Giorgio offers dreamy ice cream, including the fabled paciugo sundae.

Also on the menu are complimentary boat tours on a traditional gozzo and private loungers on nearby Bagni Fiore beach. A short shuttle ride takes guests to the exceptional facilities at sister hotel, Splendido, with its panoramic saltwater pool, tennis court and wellness centre. Curated adventures range from ecofarm picnics and sunset kayaking to walks in the Cinque Terre.
